Should i fit a magnaclean
Thanks for the update, its always good to understand the approach others take to things, your boiler sounds bullet proof lol and owes you nothing which is brilliant. The other fall-back idea I had was to install isolation valves before and after the MagnaClean to eliminate the need to use the built in valves if I had too.
You have very limited space compared to me, one consideration I had was for the filter to go in the airing cupboard, again it would have been tight, but possible, maybe an option for you, or use a smaller filter, such as the MagnaClean Atom. Hi, I'm sure a Magnaclean is a good device for keeping the central heating system clean. What I want to know is if the system is old and has inhibitor in, why is it needed? I've just cleaned the system and got lots of sludge etc out. This must mean that the system wears thin, so if the Magnaclean takes out material is it just a matter of time before the system needs replacing anyway?

A magnaclean will just keep the system working efficiently and help valves and other components from getting damaged. CES Plumber. The middle section has magnetic rods that take out the magnetite. Once the magnetite attaches to the rod, it will not move until you clean out the filter. There are no moving parts for the filter. It is just the water going around the magnet.
Whether your home needs one or not is up to you. Other methods for filtering water before it enters the central heating system are not very efficient. Solutions like fine mesh strainers or cloth filters need frequent replacements.
They do not get every kind of debris, and they can also clog up your system. The filter, on the other hand, is pretty low-maintenance. It requires minimal cleaning and receives better results. There is no harm in getting one as a precautionary step. It depends. It is very understandable if you are hesitating. It is an expensive investment. If you are the type to only purchase if you need it, here are questions you can use to see if it will be a worthwhile investment for your home:.
Houses from the s have untreated pipes that make it easy to rust. Radiators that do not heat evenly have too much sludge and debris inside, and they need a power flush from a professional plumber.
The magnetic filter addresses all these problems with little to no effort. You should clean your filter once a year. The Adey recommends that you have it done along with other boiler service and radiator maintenance.
There is no harm in making a day out of it. You can opt to clean your filter yourself, but that comes with the risk of leaks. Agile , 27 Apr As ChrisR says, the best way to keep your system working is to not fit the Magnaclean. It is, ironically, the weakest link in any central heating system. I just do Central Heating plus some more specialized stuff and have had a team of between 3 and 7 chaps putting boilers in over the last 8 years.
So there are a few thousand of my boilers out there. Many on this forum have more installation experience than me. But when you read the responses you don't know whether the person has fitted 2 or of the product. All I can tell you is that around 3 out 4 Magnacleans we've fitted have needed replacement and that is just wholly unacceptable. I've heard on the grapevine that BG have had enough of them, but can't corroborate this.
The sticking valves are one problem, one of many. Unfortunately, any problems with Magnaclean normally result in a drain down, and that is expensive for everybody. Adey's idea of a warranty is a new Magnaclean. They fit themselves, it seems. Agile , 28 Apr
