Start looking at bigger primates though and the price climbs exponentially. Your monkey will need a massive enclosure with high ceilings and things to climb. Spider monkeys are one of the few types of monkeys that most people can name. While most monkeys can be kept in diapers, spider monkeys commonly rip their diapers off and throw them around. Furthermore, spider monkeys are extremely social and need even more attention and interaction than most of the other monkey breeds. Without ample attention, spider monkeys are likely to become aggressive.

Monkeys are never quiet pets, but marmosets might be the loudest of them. These primates have a shorter lifespan than many, topping out at about 20 years.

Guenons are medium-sized monkeys that are about inches tall and weigh pounds on average. Interestingly, guenons have hairs that are each two colors. TikTok star Georgie Boy touched the hearts of millions of American with his adorable antics but his sudden death has prompted many to ponder on buying their own primate pal. Caring for primates is extremely difficult and keeping their mental and physical well being up can prove challenging so before buying one, have a proper think whether you're ready for the responsibility.

Monkeys are not domesticated animals so they can be dangerous and cause serious damage to your property. And that's not including the costs of buying cages, a welcoming and calm habitat, food, veterinary bills and diapers.

Most monkeys eat fruits and vegetables plus some animal protein, such as poultry, worms and insects. Veterinary Care is an entirely different kettle of fish and will require a bit of time and research as not all vets cater for monkeys.

Monkeys have complex dietary needs. Many of them are omnivore-frugivores, so unless you have a breeding farm of mealworms and a steady supply of crickets and maggots in your garage, as well as an orchard out back, you may want to think twice here.

Most people get away with protein mixes and vitamin supplements that work some of the time, but are somewhat surprised that their monkey is looking feeble and skinny come winter. What about the carbs? I say, therefore, that No, monkeys do not make good pets. They should not be bought out of the pet trade for amusement, nor should they be bred and imported for the purpose. Should you consider getting one, think twice about what you are contributing to. Your dollars will encourage the crude shipment of these primates from the exotic origins they call home, to a city apartment they call hell.
