You can, however, initiate a correction cycle yourself using the PS3's Safe Mode, a diagnostic mode designed to correct issues that can't be addressed from within the system menu. Press and hold the power button again for about 10 seconds, at which point you'll hear a series of three beeps. After the third beep, let go of the button and then repeat the process; this time the third beep will be a double beep, at which point releasing the button will start up the PS3 in Safe Mode.
Apparently this only rebuilds the file structure which can get messed up, but no data is deleted in the process.
When you perform this operation, all data in the system storage will be deleted. Also, the system software will be restored to its default settings. Be careful not to accidentally delete important data as the changes cannot be undone. Data loss or corruption is the responsibility of the user. This is wiping out a hard drive completely. Bad sectors on your hard drive or other storage media can also cause file corruption, even if the saving process finishes properly.
Viruses and other malware can also cause file corruption. Hold the power button until it turns off again. If you rebuild the database, you will lose messages, playlists, music, videos and certain system settings. You will not lose your game progress or trophies. Cheating in Public games is for noobs and pussies lol. Outside of these situations, never had anything going corrupt for me.
You can also have game save files corrupt on you if it happens to be written in a bad section of your HDD but if your HDD is going bad, you'll most likely have lots of stuff going corrupt , if the game has an issue writting data I recall vanilla Arkham City having this problem and if your turn your system off abruptely like pulling the power chord.
Once a save file is corrupt, there's nothing you can do about it, you can't recover it. You can just erase the corrupt data and then start over.
If your data is going corrupt frequently, check if you are turning your PS3 off while your game is still auto-saving.
If that is not the case, maybe there are some bad sections in your HDD. Formatting could help, if the disk is not physically damaged or you could run a HDD verification that is always prompeted when you turn your system off abruptely. So, a save file may never go corrupt while you are playing it, mostly it's when saving only. So it's rather easy to mitigate, as most of the games allow you to have multiple save files at once.
Saving to 2 or maybe 3 separate files will get you safe. Uh is it possible for your PSN account to become corrupted or messed up as well or even hacked corrupted More topics from this board So I got out my PS3 slim after a year in storage.
