As an undead, alchemist, and herbalist, I had to use every trick I had. The second attempt I cleared one of the San'Layn to his side, and pulled the other back to the alcove behind him, where I stood to fight him. I killed him beside where I intended to stand so that I could use cannibalize during a Soul Deflection. I cast Ice Barrier and let the cooldown finish before engaging him.
I then sent in a water elemental and let it get to half before I hit Icy Veins and began nuking. I maintained mana shield so that I had some damage prevention while Ice Barrier was on cooldown.
I also kept Frost Ward up because inevitably, a Frostbolt will connect if it was in flight before soul deflection was cast. At his second I used cannibalize on the San'Layn corpse beside me. At his third I used glyphed evocation.
An endless healing pot was consumed, and I used a mana gem early in the fight. As soon as my first water elemental died it will die earlier if you dont pull it off during soul deflection , and immediately after i'd cast an Ice Barrier, I hit cold snap to refresh the cooldowns on both of those and Icy Veins.
Make no mistake this is a hard fight for a frost mage, but it is doable. If you aren't having much luck with the line of sight method and there aren't any groups, get creative and give it a shot. Comment by impsy Soloed as 70 Ret Pally, just judged light on them all and crusader strike to keep my hp up a bit. The one guy valanar was kinda tough and i popped LoH pot and divine shield rofl.
Comment by Soloed all three without probs on a lvl 71 ele shaman, the first two spam bolts till he reach you then earthbind frost shock and then lesser heals and some bolts when you can also you can use magma totem around for dmg or fire elemental totem it help. Comment by Wow look at all these solo posts. This feels just like the thottbot we all originally ran away from.
The fight was quite easy. Comment by Xasthur Just soloed this as a 72 Destro Lock. Stopped during reflection, used a healthstone. Comment by I was using Eye of Kilrogg to scout the area looking for the prince never have done Naxx Anyone ever fly up there and see if it's functional? Comment by Ramanas Very easy as a lvl74 Shadow Priest to solo these guys, first 2 guys can hit pretty hard but just keep your bubble up and make sure that Vamp Embrace is on them, after that just use fear when needed.
I only needed to use it once without Disperssion and got them both down pretty quick. Happy hunting guys :. Comment by Easily solo'd by a lvl 73 BM hunter in greens, some blues, and heirloom stuff. Tips for fellow Hunters: Make sure to pull you pet during Soul Deflection. I used a tenacity pet. I used Scorpid sting most the time. Also a big tip, the last guy has like 45K mana , so if you are running low, hit him with a Viper sting.
It regenerated almost all of my mana from one application. Close to death at Vanthryn and Valanar, Luthion was easy. Have your pet keep aggro and just keep moving it out of LoS and keep mend pet up.
Don't worry about having your pet constantly on him but just having aggro and turn to have it move out of LoS. You can spend some time bandaging your pet while Valanar does his soul deflection. The other 2 are fairly simply, just freezing trap them if you get in trouble and they are trivial.
Comment by Jakeofb1adez44 Alright, I just solo'd all three of these guys as a level 72 Troll Prot Warrior, here is how I did it: For Luthion the Vile and Vanthryn the Merciless it was actually very simple, I just used all my of stunning cooldowns whenever they were up to keep myself from taking any real damage.
Just start with a charge, get off a devastate, shockwave, another two devastates, then concussive blow, then Shield block, and finally disarm, ect. Keep them stunned while I beat their faces in. But, Prince Valanar was a little bit more complicated. His abilities were Soul Deflection, a Drain Soul style channeled spell that would reflect any damage you did to him back at you, a standard shadow bolt that hit for roughly 2,, and then a I found that the bomb was what was tearing me to shreds, so I figured out a way to avoid it.
What I did was I taunted Prince when I had nearly full rage and used Spell reflect, it would throw his shadow bolt back at him for a good 2, and then I would Line of Sight his next Shadow bolt.
After that he would get close to me and melee for only about 3 or 4 swings, then begin to channel the Soul deflection. Then he would run up and punch me a few times, but this is when you need to ONLY auto attack him or risk reflecting a lot of damage back at yourself.
Only auto attack him until you see him start to cast a shadow bolt. This is when you throw up a Spell Reflect and you use every big hitting spell you can, but the moment he stops casting, spam escape and start to run to Line of Sight him again, because a Soul Deflection is coming. But, if he does not cast a shadow bolt when he comes to melee you after using soul deflection, then just auto attack because he's just going to soul deflection again.
If you keep this up you should be able to solo him as a protection Warrior. It took me about three or four deaths to come up with this strategy. It does have a decent margin for error, if you execute it perfectly you'll lose maybe 1, Health from his auto attacks.
Azarith - 72 Protection Warrior of Archimonde. Comment by Able to solo with 72 Enchancement Shammy. So make sure your feral spirit is not in cooldown. The gank ended in less than 15 seconds ;. Comment by Soloed this as a resto spec druid just cast regrowth and rejuvenation from time to time usually when he does the reflect thing and i used once innervate, pretty boring fight took a long time but managed to do it on my own just keep on healing druids :.
Also be sure to keep up Power Word: Shield. Prince Valanar, however, his Shadow Bolts can hit like a friggin semi-truck so be sure to keep up Shadow Protection. Other than that, same thing as the previous two bosses, with the exception that he is immune to Psychic Scream. I also found it very useful to use a trinket during this fight. Ancient Crystal Talisman is what i used. Comment by theMoonWalker Soloed as an elemental shaman, lvl Basically involved bloodlust, self heals, and grounding totem.
I just started healing when he did the reflection abillity. But all in all quite doable. The first two guys were really easy, just keep spamming death strike. Valanar was a little trickier, I did have to use a potion and ghoul sac.
So Death Knights, if you know how to keep yourself up, go for it! Comment by Ketasa Soloed as lvl 70 enhancement shammy. Gave the Prince a whack once in blood presence, pretty much a failure as my diseases ticking during soul reflect did me in. Tried again in Frost presence, and was much easier. Used Anti-Magic Shield when up to block a couple of shadowbolts and once during soul reflect.
Had my ghoul out as well. Never had to use rune tap or sacrifice my ghoul. Good luck! No shadow resist. Comment by I soloed this quest as a lvl 72 Prot Pally. Granted, as a tank spec, I did not kill any of them quickly, but I did kill them eventually. My gear is blacksmith crafted cobalt armor and shield- other items are Northrend quest rewards.
The 2 death knights were not too difficult since they can be stunned, silenced, etc. As other posters have stated, the key here is to beware of the Soul Deflection, lest you end up killing yourself. After arriving to the 3rd floor, I killed death knights until I got to the area where Valanar is standing.
He is facing the center of the room, and there are two death knights standing on either side of him, and one patrolling on a horse. I waited for the horseman to wander into range so I could pull him, then did so- killed him, then killed one of the guards near Valanar. If you hug the wall, you can slip around the corner into the alcove so you are behind Valanar. Then I used Hand of Reckoning to pull the other guard without aggroing Valanar.
Worked like a charm. Now to deal with the Prince. NO DoTs. He channels long enough that a pally has enough time to take a couple steps back and squeeze off 2 Holy Light. As others have said, Valanar is immune to all stuns, movement impairments, silences, interrupts, etc. Account for this and plan accordingly. Comment by qutyre Easy soloed as a 71 enchance shaman, just pop all cd's and burn em down. Prince Valanar was harder than the others, just heal when needed.
Comment by Ihmemies Easy to solo as retri paladin since you have so much self healing. Just remember to not to hit Valanar when channels the Soul deflection ability. Comment by just soloed as a demonic lock lv 70, with this tatic 2 first both meele and fearable have armor and hs and ss rdy you may not need it but just in case..
Comment by Draas Be careful while figting Vanthryn, there's a gargoyle patrol near him. Comment by Easily soloable as a prot warrior. As long as you're in all Northrend plate armor with a shield, his melee damage is minimal. You shouldn't even have to pop Last Stand or Shield Wall, unless you accidentally Revenge crit yourself for 4k. Comment by Ok I just want to say thank you to everyone who said something about Soul Deflection. It took me 3 tries before I finally decided to come here and look up on how to do this fight solo.
Like stated above keep Shadow Ward up as much as possible. Make sure you are geared a little bit. This guy hits like a truck. And one little screw up with his Soul Deflection And barely got away with my life HP left. I breathed a sigh of relief after this one was over. What a pain to solo. Nuke him quick but pay attention to Soul Deflection while he is channeling it. Drain Life and keep that Shadow Ward up. As for your pet to have up I suggest the Void.
After that its pretty much luck to get him down and knowing your class as a lock. You will have to pull some pretty good deeps for this fight. It's a quick one but not the easiest one to do. As for the other 2 chumps below him they are cake compared to Val. Comment by HandsomeJack The only serious fight should be with the Prince, take your time and keep your head on a swivel, as the respawns for the DK mobs are fast and could ruin the fight for you. Solo as stated; As a Paladin: Keep Shadow resist Aura as the shadow bolts will surprisingly do less dmg than his instant cast spell Death Coil?
Drop LoS if you need to, other than that keep Holy Shield up as he hits quite hard. As a Rogue: I wouldn't attempt seeing as there is zero CC power on your side as he is immune to everything.
He has too much life to try and keep up with him. As a Mage: Frost - Pet out and burn Freeze him down, drop LoS as said and try to keep him ranged as his melee is powerful.
Send pet in if you're Unholy. Blood will help with the melee and instant cast, while Frost will help with Shadow bolt if you don't wish to LoS it it. DO NOT attack during this phase. Comment by Solo'ed as a 73 rogue. I just had to fight reg mobs to get my cooldowns back up. Comment by I solo'd as a level 71 Enhancement shaman. From what I can tell wind shear had no affect on him. Comment by crabbyguy Tried to solo him 8 times as a 73 combat Rogue - quest gear, food and elixir buffs, super healing potions, fel blossoms, trinkets, bandages, lifeblood Your poisons and attacks will reflect back on you when he channels, he's immune to interrupts and stuns, his spells are strong, his melee is strong - it's hopeless.
I might try again in 3 or 4 levels, but at 73, forget it. On the plus side, the first two guys were a piece of cake. Comment by stormyweather No one wants to group for these quests anymore, so just wanted to add my comments on soloing.
As a level 72 frost mage, I managed to solo this, but it took me a few tries. The first two elites are pretty simple, and it was just a matter of kiting them. But Valanar was more of a challenge. His shadow bolts hit pretty hard ouch! I popped mirror image early on as well as icy veins , and between them and the water elemental he spread his shadow bolts out among them for a bit.
His bolt has a long cast time and I was standing pretty far away, so when I was the last one standing I broke LoS by running back down the hallway I came from. I buffed myself with a spellpower elixir and some firecracker salmon, as well as superior wizard oil.
I popped a health pop halfway through and bandaged near the end, although his shadow bolt broke it. In the end, the difference between living and dying was just running out of his line of sight while he was casting shadow bolt.
When he does his channeled damage reflection thingy, you can stand around or bandage or convocate or whatever. As long as you aren't damaging him while he does it, it's a harmless spell. Comment by Kiserai Just solo'ed him as a 71 elemental Shaman. Kept my distance, engaged with a lightning bolt quickly followed by a Flame Shock and Lava Burst.
After that it was a matter of keeping up DPS between lightning bolt, flame shock and lava burst and keeping myself alive using healing surge. I was about out of mana by the end of the fight but I ran up and hit him with a Thunderstorm for some additional damage and for a quick mana boost.
It was a bit touch and go there for a bit and I actually did die my first attempt, but I resurrected myself, healed up a bit and hit him again. Just keep a close eye on your health and don't let it get too low before throwing out a healing surge. I would say to try and stay in the top half of your life bar as much as possible.
The searing totem and flame shock DOT will do a pretty good amount of damage, so make sure you're keeping yourself healthy and only throwing out lava bursts and lightning bolts when you're safe to do so. Comment by halflife lvl70 desto lock can solo this, I just kept immolate, bane and corruption on Prince and health funneled the voidwalker constantly, hit him with stuff when the pet was nearly topped off and just continued to health funnel like mad, I forgot during the fight but summoning the infernal would've been an ok idea I guess as well as keeping Shadow Ward up Comment by Soloed as a 71 BM hunter, although it took me a few tries and i really pulled out all of my tricks.
Resume dps. Comment by Like stated the 1st 2 are easy to solo. Unless you find a helping guildy its recommended to pop everything you got. Atleast thats what i did on my lvl 72 arcane mage.
Mage armor, arcane power, mana gem with the spellpower. Then again he only attacked my image jippy me. Comment by Valanaar, while very annoying, is not too hard as a Prot Paladin. Try to keep your Holy Power at max at all times. Copy link. A couple of problems with this quest, although it is completable.
Still require's wasting a HS for a quest. Teleporter is still broken as of today TeridanDW mentioned this issue Mar 28, Sign up for free to join this conversation on GitHub.
Already have an account? It gets out of line of sight and doesn't launch. Heal with flash of light when art of war is up and if you have lost health. Upon the soul deflection, heal yourself to full health and be ready to dps again. That's it. I only had to use avenging wrath for some extra damage and divine plea for mana.
Comment by Very hard to solo for a Mutilate Rogue. Then a DK joined in on my next try and we got him down. He is very anti-mutirogue as he has immunity to all kind of stuns and interrupts yes, to all abilities listed above by Blaine plus also to Kick , you can't DoT him with Rupture or Deadly Poison due to his Soul Deflection meaning you can't Envenom and you can't make much use out of Evasion as most of his damage is magical.
So basically damagewise you're options are down to keeping SnD up and Eviscerating. Could be done probably much easier by wall-dancing and getting out of LoS when he casts Shadowbolt, but I am too stubborn to get things down the hard way. Comment by gooda 72 Affliction Lock: Similar to my method for luthion and vanthryn; Send in the VW and use his Suffering ability right away. However for this fight, apply no dots whatsoever. Counter-intuitive though it may be, his reflective ability will put you down early if you're ill-equipped.
Continuously apply health funnel to your VW whenever the prince is using his soul ability. Also remember to reapply Suffering if it comes back up before you down the mob. Once he gets within 10k or less feel free to go nuts and apply your dots if you like, but you still run the risk of having them reflected back at you. Without using any dots I downed him in 2 minutes without ever taking any damage. Comment by Found him very easy as a level 71 unholy death knight with glyphed death stirke. Didn't notice that I was hitting myself during soul deflection, just thought it was a fairly random channeled damage spell he was doing.
Keep diseases up, and death strike like you mean it. Use them all, and burst him down! Comment by Soloable as a 70 ret paladin in full leveling gear. Simply switch on shadow protection aura and go to town.
Obviously don't attack during his damage reflect, just heal during this time period. Didn't need to use Lay on Hands but others might. Used a mana potion halfway through. Blood worms FTW. Comment by I went as a level 80 Fury Warrior in full man gear and here is my report. I died the first go around before I read up on his damage reflect and instagibbed myself. The second time I knew about his abilities and got him down as fast as possible with cooldowns and when I saw him channeling his reflect I immediately hit escape and moved back.
Sad thing is that I had Deep Wounds ticking for and the shield reflected that back at me so I died to my own DoT. I don't know if his shield reflects all DoTs or if I just had an exception, possibly because my DoT is physical damage. Either way, the story is that even if you're a lv. Comment by boggy Easy soloable at level 74 on elemental shaman, just put grounding totem down as soon as you can. Piece of cake.
Also soloed as 72 prot paly. Comment by adamb10 Easily soloable as a level 72 aff warlock. Comment by Really easy as a retri paladin as long as you have your cds ready, oneshot!
Comment by Hm Me tryed on SV spec. The first 2 minibosses were hard as hell, but i managed to kill em with as many CC used as i had, with a spider pet with ability Web. Used LoS to pull him around the corner from where he stands, dropped Fire Elemental totem for burst popped Feral Spirit, Bloodlust and just tried to DPS him down as quickly as possible. Only had to heal once or twice, but He was dead before the wolves despawned. Hope this gives someone the confidence to try and solo it.
Comment by To the Hunters having trouble with this boss, here's a quick step by step on how to beat him. First of all, you'll have to use a lot of Line of Sight tactics, which comes to your advantage in this fight since he has a cast time. To be able to do this, ensure that you clear trash around him and between him and one ramp going down a floor level. You will need: 1. About 5 bandages. The higher the better. Having a mana potion helps, but isn't needed.
Patience 4. I haven't tried as any other spec, but BM seems to be ideal. Pet Settings: 1. Set your pet on passive 2.
Ideally, you want your pet to have some sort of defense or recovery mechanism Last stand, Turtle's shield wall, Lick Your Wounds, etc. I did mine with Lick your Wounds, cat. Set these abilities as non-auto cast; you want to trigger them yourself.
If your pet has a DoT ex, cats , turn it off. Set yourself in a good position within range, but as farthest as you can get. Cast mend pet right before you pull, drink, then as soon as you get full mana then pull the boss with concussive shot. The reason you use concussive shot, even though he's immune, is to pull with little threat. Run back towards the ramp right next to the wall, but don't Line of Sight him. The boss will adjust at range to cast his shadow bolts. As soon as he is positioned send your pet in.
Immediately pop all of your CDs. Ensure Mend Pet is always up.
